With this project we want to show how filter bubbles
created by algorithms
on social media can divide people and become a danger for democracy.
THE ONE SIDED project is a newspaper that only shows what its readers want to see. Before purchasing this newspaper, the user is asked a polarizing question. Depending on the answer chosen, the user receives a red or a blue filter. These two filters represent two opposing filter bubbles, and the user will only be able to read one side of the newspaper through the filter.
When we enter a filter bubble, we only get shown things we like and information we are likely to agree with. With THE ONE SIDED, we represent this situation in an analog format, showing how filter bubbles work and representing the information we are missing
